Judge Joy Malek Oldfield graduated from John Carroll University with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and a concentration
in Criminology. She received her Juris Doctorate Degree from The University of Akron School of Law. Her prior law practice
included work as an associate at Scanlon & Gearinger Co., LPA, and a partner at Hill Hardman Oldfield, LLC. At both firms,
she practiced in the area of complex civil litigation and appeals. Judge Oldfield handled cases in state and federal courts
throughout Ohio, as well as the Ohio Supreme Court and the United States Supreme Court. She also previously served as a
Magistrate to the Honorable Judge Elinore Marsh Stormer in the Summit County Common Pleas Court.
A Fellow of the Akron Bar Foundation and active member of the Akron Bar Association, Judge Oldfield has over ten years of
service to the local bar, including the Women in Law Section, and the Street Law, Common Pleas & Appellate Courts, Scholarship,
Law School Liaison and Municipal Courts Committees.
Organizations across the State of Ohio have recognized Judge Oldfield for
her leadership abilities. In 2007, she received the Distinguished Service Award from the Ohio Association for Justice, the
state’s largest victim’s rights advocacy group. In 2008, the Greater Akron Chamber of Commerce recognized her as one of its
“30 for the Future,” an award honoring young professionals whose stellar contributions impact their industries and the Greater
Akron region. In 2007, 2010 and 2011, she was named an Ohio Super Lawyer Rising Star by Cincinnati Magazine.
Judge Oldfield is an active member of the community and previously served on the Board of Trustees for Akron’s Community
Legal Aid Services and The Women’s Network of Northeast Ohio. A current board member for Akron’s Dapper Dan Charity, and a
member of The Oriana House Advisory Committee, Judge Oldfield also finds time to volunteer for many local organizations,
including Akron Law Cares (which provides community service to AMHA seniors), The Christ Child Society of Akron (which
provides services and clothing to Akron area children in need), and the ATHENA Luncheon Committee of the Akron Community
Foundation’s Women’s Endowment Fund (which encourages mentoring and relationship-building among area women).
A resident of Akron, Judge Oldfield is married with two daughters, and was elected to the bench in November, 2011.
