JIM
LARIA AND STAFF CONTINUE TO BREAK RECORDS
IN COURT COLLECTIONS
JIM LARIA,
Akron Municipal Clerk of Courts, and staff were busy in 2005 with record breaking collections of court funds.
The Clerk's Office total gross receipts exceeded the $10 million dollar mark for the third time, with collections
totaling $10,746,503.36 for the fiscal year. This was an increase of $690,784.00 over the previous high that was
set in fiscal year 2001.
The office continues to modernize and improve the work environment. The Clerk's Office replaced the public access
counters in the Civil, Traffic, and Criminal Cashier areas to improve security for staff and the public. In addition,
the staff began computer imaging of all civil pleadings which are now available on our website.
Jim Laria and staff also implemented House Bill 30, which Laria championed in our General Assembly. Effective
March 31, 2005, the bill allows for D.E.T.E.R. holds, which prevents the renewal of license plates or drivers licenses,
on all handicap parking tickets that are not paid.
Recognized around Ohio as an innovative leader in court management, Jim Laria is President of the Ohio Association of
Municipal Court Clerks after serving 6 years as Educational Chair. An elected member of the Akron School Board in 1995,
Jim is a proud graduate of Akron Public Schools and the University of Akron in Education. Laria additionally graduated
from the National Judicial College on Court Management.
